CLOSING MORI: An Afterword
Mori is temporarily moving to catering starting 8.25.20. Thank you to all of our customers, friends, family, vendors, salespeople, accountants, lawyers, and whoever else we missed for supporting and helping us in achieving a fantastic two years. Mori launched with the goal of exposing more people to the best and most exotic foods at an affordable price. Luxury foods such as uni, caviar, and wagyu are often sold at exorbitant prices due to only fine dining restaurants stocking it.
Mori aimed to change that by lowering costs through buying larger quantity, building close relationships with vendors, and breaking even or sometimes losing money on some of our more specialty items (uni was a big offender!). We’ve had A5 wagyu, bluefin tuna (otoro), foie gras, uni, spot prawns, king crab, and numerous other items on our seasonal menu that would often sell out faster than we could source it. We will reopen in the future in a much bigger space, even more specialty foods, and ingredients by request.
